About Me

Kaela+Photo.jpg

Originally from the Bay Area, I am a therapist, consultant, researcher and speaker on issues related to the empowerment of communities of color, mental health of kids and teens, and perceptions and treatment of mental health and mental illness in traumatized and/or marginalized communities. I hold an M.A. in clinical psychology with specializations in applied community psychology and psychological trauma studies and a B.A. from Stanford University in urban studies with a focus on urban education, and African and African American studies.

In my previous roles I worked as Assistant Director of a non-profit in Los Angeles developing programming to support students of color in predominantly white K-12 environments, as a therapist in a domestic violence emergency shelter, and as a behavioral therapist with children with an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. I recently completed a year-long full-time training fellowship in child and adolescent mental health with Kaiser Permanente Northern California.

I currently split my time between clinical work as a therapist and research. In addition to my role as a therapist, I am the lab manager at Stanford University School of Medicine in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences researching the impacts of early life stress and trauma on psychological, physical, and genetic development. I frequently present to middle and high schools, colleges, and professional organizations on topics related to mental health and wellness, self-care, empowerment of people of color, impacts of trauma, and healthy relationships.

Healing is possible — and I’m here to help you achieve it.
